'Cruisin' Through the Decades:' VSMS plans concert with songs from 50's to 2014

Charlyn Fowler, Erin Wood and Taylor Dearborn practice Tuesday, March 18th marks the date of the “Cruisin’ Through the Decades”, Middle School Vocal Concert.    This program will be presented by the Vinton-Shellsburg 7th and 8th Grade Choirs and Show Choir.   The performance will begin at 7:00 at the high school auditorium. Songs from the 1950’s through 2014 will be highlighted.

Social Host Ordinance training set for March 18

On October 24, 2012, Benton County’s Social Host Ordinance took         effect. At this time efforts are being made to have this ordinance                      implemented in all Benton County towns.

Better Tomorrows Board to meet March 5

The Better Tomorrows Board will be meeting on March 5th at the Kirkwood Vinton Center at 12:00 p.m. Topics of discussion will be Financials, Co-Director Reports, Site Visit Form Review; Approval of Fiscal Agent; RFP Application Approval; Program Reports, By-Laws and Transition Plan. Voyagers (and Alumni) to perform at Spring Show tonight

The VS Voyagers (and alumni) will perform their routines Friday, Feb. 28, at VSMS. The V-S Voyager Dance Team will be holding their annual Spring Show tonight, Friday February 28, at 7 p.m. at the V-S Middle School Gym. Admission is $5; doors open at 6:30 pm. There will be door prizes, guest performances, Alumni Voyagers and lots of fun dancing!!   Members of this year's team include Kyra Blix, Caitlin Kruckenberg, Daisy Johnson, Amanda Burkey, Kierra Howard, Rachel Nugent, and Kristen Halstead.

Kiwanis plan Pancake Day this Saturday March 1

The annual Vinton Kiwanis Club Pancake Day will take place Saturday March 1, at the Vinton Skate Center.  Money raised goes towards college scholarships and youth based projects in our community. Tickets are $5 before Pancake Day or $6 at the door. Under school age eat FREE. Purchase tickets from any Vinton Kiwanis member or at Three Rivers Insurance, Vinton.

Genealogy Workshop offered advice, helped raise funds for CP library project

A computer lab full of people (18) attended the Friends of the Center Point Library genealogy workshop Saturday, Feb. 22, at the new High School. The fund raiser for the Public Library was also made possible by CPU Schools, the Washington Township Trustees and by volunteer instructors Bob King, Center Point, and Linda Joy Schmidt, Cedar Rapids. Bob led the group, step by simple step, through getting a family tree started on FamilySearch.

Breast Cancer Survivors to meet March 4

Bereavement support group to meet March 6

The bereavement support group, "Meet and Eat", will meet Thursday March 6 at noon at the Pizza Ranch in Vinton.  Anyone who is grieving the loss of a loved one is invited.  For more information phone Frieda at 472-5348.
